Schleimer, Edward

Edward Schleimer was born in Kitchener, Ontario, where he works in many forms: eclectic paintings and sculpture, printmaking, pastel drawings, woodcuts, sculpture, the spoken and written word. He has deep convictions about peace, understanding, co-operation, compassion and forgiveness which he sees as the birth right of all peoples.

The history of western civilization has long been the ground of his work, which often makes vivid his concern that our mechanical needs are damaging, even over-taking our ecological world. He thinks of creativity, whatever form it takes, as a prayer to creation. He is best known, perhaps, for his woodcut prints and sculptures which are vigorous, even harsh, so the delicacy of these watercolour paintings will be a surprise to many people who know his work. Their close observation and complex colour grow out of the affectionate respect he has for the natural world.
